Barbara Walters...Mistress?
Barbara was on Oprah this afternoon, and she was talking about her affair with married U.S. Senator Edward Brooke. Oprah referred to Barbara as a mistress. She was very upset by this label. She stated that no man had ever "kept" her, so she was not a mistress. So, what was she? A sexual whore to Senator Brooke? I think I would rather have the label of mistress. I also found it odd that both women (Barbara and Oprah) appeared to make light of the fact that Barbara had an affair with a married man. I'm not a saint, but that does seem to be something that one should be ashamed of. Damn, Barbara!

Persoanlly, I say kudos to Barbara--it was a different time--marriage came early, divorce wasn't an option, and a black man screwing a white woman would have ruined both their careers. Really--what choice did they have but ot have an affair. To assume that affairs weren't the standard at the time is romaticising the past--al thoose guys back then were getting some on the side--because society pushed them into lifetime commitments too early. But that's just my 2 cents.
I still admire Barbara.
As a woman who was cheated on by her ex-husband, I guess I just have a different lens to look through. I do hear what you are saying too.
Your husband was a jackass who liked porn. I don't think he wsa cheating on with you the likes of Barbara Walters--and he was perfectly capable of asking for a divorce--it would have hurt neither his career nor his life. Different time.
*sigh* I do love you, Sukie. ;)
